Mattock Therapy

Tonight was very productive. We had a cheap and delicious meal, I sauteed crappie (not crap pie, crappie the fish) in olive oil and then baked some awesome potato wedges. I stole the recipe from The Pioneer Woman, altered it a bit (less butter and oil) but they were awesome. Short version: Cut your potatoes into wedges, rub with olive oil (enough to cover), kosher salt and bake at 450ยบ for 20 minutes, take them out turn them over and put them back in for another 15 minutes. Amazing.

I over salted the fish, which has now caused my fingers to swell up. Yippee. Now I must drink more water which means I'll wake up at 3:30am to use the bathroom. This is a vicious cycle. But salt is so goooood.

After dinner I watched Big Bang Theory (7pm Monday nights on CBS, watch it, it's hilarious) then I went outside to work in the garden.

This is my new project--I have declared war on the back yard. Oh backyard, too long have you been overgrown and pathetic. My sister is coming on Memorial day to help me plant flowers and shrubs, so I need to get the old stuff out. One flower bed was so over grown that when I cleaned it out I found a trellis! A whole trellis buried under the mass of overgrowth!

So tonight I took Dirk's mattock, which looks like this:

And I beat the snot out of that flower bed. Not pointless beatings, I was digging up roots and giant stumps. I won: 30 minutes and three stumps later.

It's kind of enjoyable. It's a great way to take out your aggression. Not that I have any.

I ended up the night reading my new issue of Cooking Light and now craving coconut cupcakes... which is weird since I don't really like coconut.

Mirrors hung!

I found this drawer unit at an estate sale today. I love it. It has bookshelves on each side and the top drawer front opens flat to make a desk. I've been needing bookshelves badly, so I bought it. With a little furniture polish it looks great!

I need more mirrors for my wall, but it looks good for now! It only took two years, but our house is finally starting to feel like home.

And now I'm going to watch "Cold Mountain." I finished the book last week, so now I feel obligated to watch the movie, even though I know it will depress me.
